What is proportion?

Let me give an example of a situation where there is a proportion. For example, in a library, when a book is overdued by 5 days, the fine is 50 cents and if the book is overdued by 3 days, the fine is 30 cents. Thus,

                 3 days : 5 days = 30 cents : 50 cents

From this example, we can see that proportion is actually a statement that shows that 2 ratios are equal. Thus,

Proportion is a statement that shows that 2 ratios are equal.
